so many have been listed, but i have not seen three of my favorites, so i gotta throw them up here...

new speedway boogie:
"now i don't know, but i've been told;
if the horse don't pull you got to carry the load.
i don't know who's backs that strong;
maybe find out before too long.

one way or another, one way or another;
one way or another, this darkness has got to give"

ship of fools:
"i won't slave for beggar's pay;
likewise, gold and jewels,
but i would slave to learn the ways
to sink your ship of fools"

finally, ripple:
"there is a road, no simple highway,
between the dawn and the dark of night,
and if you go, no one may follow
that path is for, your steps alone

ripple in still water, where there is no pebble tossed,
nor wind to blow

you who choose, to lead must follow,
but if you fall you fall alone
if you should stand, then who's to guide you?
if i knew the way, i would take you home."

p.s. - to anyone who has not done so already, please go to, look under jerry garcia, and download garcia&grisman 12/8/91, it's 'brings tears to your eyes good,' no joke.

Past couple of years here the one I find myself returning to over and over:

One way or another this darkness got to give
